The Story
Named in 1848 in honour of Sir Thomas Mitchell, who led the exploration of Australia. 'Eremophila' comes from Greek for 'desert-loving'. To survive a harsh climate and hungry grazers, the tree protects its heartwood with complex resins and oils, rich in rare compounds called eremophilones.
